Joyce happily gets one up on the Queen with her vaccine

She survived the Sheffield Blitz and at 101 years old she became Broomgrove Nursing Home’s first resident to get the Corona vaccine.

Joyce Green, who had her first jab last Friday (January 8th), said she was immensely proud to be number one and was extra proud “as I even had it before the Queen”!

30 care home residents and 50 staff have now received their first jabs at Dore Medical Surgery.

Broomgrove Manager Donna Pierpoint said it was a fantastic feeling to finally start to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

“Though it’s early days and we’ve all got to have a second jab in a few weeks time, it felt like a weight had been lifted from us. The jab was totally painless and the whole operation was incredibly well managed by NHS staff.

“We all felt well after and I would absolutely encourage anyone and everyone to have the vaccine.”

Queen Elizabeth had her jab the day after Joyce Green – on Saturday, January 9th.

Broomgrove is a very well run home with excellent facilities and many activities for the residents, but above all it is a warm and welcoming place that feels like somewhere that is pleasant to live.
The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a real bond between them and the residents.
My mother has been there for the best part of a year now and it was with some trepidation that we asked her to try it, initially on a temporary basis, to see if it would suit her when living at home had become increasingly difficult. She has settled in well and enjoys the many activities on offer and the sociable atmosphere in the home. In addition, the on-site nursing care means that I feel that mum is in safe hands. In fact, it is easy to praise Broomgrove as it sets a standard that you wish all homes could offer (but unfortunately don't).

John O (Son of Resident)

My partner has been cared for in Broomgrove for the past three and a half years and he and all his family are delighted with the consistently high standard of care he has received. Despite his high level of complex needs, all the staff have ensured that he has had everything he could possibly need. They have always been totally dedicated to making him as comfortable and fulfilled as possible and are always friendly and anxious to make him happy. Whenever there have been any health issues, the staff respond speedily and efficiently.

The home has a very high standard of cleanliness and the decor is up to date and attractive. The outdoor sitting area is lovely. There’s always something going on with interesting activities and regular celebrations and parties. The food is always fantastic too.
