Lord Mayor unveils Broomgrove’s UK safety first

Resident care has undergone a hi-tech revolution at Broomgrove as it becomes the first in the country to install a pioneering new generation of nurse call system designed to prioritise care for the most vulnerable.

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Anne Murphy, officially unveiled Courtney Thorne’s Altra system just a few days ago.

Donna Pierpoint, the manager at Broomgrove said: “We’re constantly on the look out for ways we can improve resident care and provide them with an extra level if safety and reassurance. This new system is absolutely fantastic.

“It’s an honour to be the first care home in the country to install it and have the Lord Mayor come to unveil it!”

The legacies of two former residents funded the wireless Courtney Thorne Altra system that automatically monitors response times and ranks their priority.

My Dad moved to Broomgrove in December 2018, after a really difficult three months in hospital. He could not be in a better place. Despite the changes that the medical issues brought to his life, thanks to the quality of the care and the attention to detail showed by the manager and her staff. He quickly settled into his "new life" and he really is appreciative of the care, consideration and respect he receives. The home has a lovely atmosphere and an ethos that makes it very special. Everything is well organised, the accommodation is spotless and the staff are so kind and clearly committed and experienced.
It's a real pleasure to visit Dad at Broomgrove and to see him relaxed and smiling. Every day I feel thankful for the care and attention shown to him by the manager and her staff. Wonderful.

Mum has lived here for several years now, it is not her choice to live here, she would much rather be at home but a stroke means she needs 24 hour care; we all agree given the circumstances she couldn't be happier anywhere else. The manager takes care to employ staff who are both kind and patient as well as being efficient in their roles; staff turnover seems to be low and many of the staff have been there much, much longer than my mum which shows, hopefully, that they are happy in their work. The food is fabulous, we have joined my mum for meals sometimes, as have my cousins; the food and service is as good as many restaurants. Entertainment/ activities are arranged most days and regular special events are arranged for residents and families to enjoy together. Nowhere is perfect but when we do raise very occasional concerns these are always dealt with quickly and professionally by the manager and/or the staff. We can't think of anywhere where mum would be better looked after.
