Record numbers of care home personnel land university places

Staff say farewell
Staff leaving for university say their farewell to Broomgrove

Eight members of staff have landed places at university this autumn!
Residents and staff organised a party to say farewell to the individuals that are leaving to pursue a number of different roles in the healthcare industry.

Donna Pierpoint, the manager at Broomgrove Care Home, said: “We’re always keen for members of staff to better themselves but this year has been record – even for us!

“Thankfully we already have staff to take their place, as we have a rolling programme of students joining and leaving us.

“Three of the people leaving are going to medical school, three to nursing, one to midwifery and one to radiology”.

Many students continue to work at Broomgrove Nursing Home and do ‘bank’ shifts in between their studies.

“It really is a win win situation”, Donna added. “The students gain valuable experience and we gain a highly educated and enthusiastic member of staff. Residents love to watch them grow into the amazing people they become by the time they leave us.”

My 89-year-old mother recently fell and broke her hip. We needed some convalescence care after hospital care but before coming home.
Broomgrove is close to home. In a nice part of town. Our very first contact was met with very helpful and prompt responses. We were invited to look around. Mum had a cosy private room with lovely views into the garden. A spacious very nicely appointed bathroom. It feels very secure. And the common spaces are attractive, offering plenty of opportunities to eat with other residents or enjoy the lounge areas.
Food was very good, home cooked and generous. Lots of choices. The staff without exception were friendly, professional and respectful. My mum was quite confused. Everyone was very kind. She was very well cared for for 3 weeks. Helped to rehabilitate and recover enough to return home. We were welcomed as visitors at any time, to be with mum, relax, have a meal. There’s a family feel. We would definitely use Broomgrove again.

I am confident that my Husband is being well cared for and his needs are being met. I am also confident that the staff communicate well with me and keep me informed about his condition. I find Broomgrove a happy place to visit and all the staff are very kind to me. The staff at Broomgrove do their best to meet the varied needs of their residents and their relatives.
If I needed to go into care myself, I would choose Broomgrove. Throughout my husband’s illness and having had my husband’s mother, my father and my aunt in different care homes, I believe Broomgrove to be the best.
